Spurs urged to make one particular signing in January which will make them serious title contenders

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham are off to a terrific start to the season with Ange Postecoglou’s side yet to be beaten in the league.

They currently sit at the top of the table with 26 points, 2 points ahead of rivals Arsenal and 5 points ahead of Premier League champions Manchester City.

Spurs’ summer signings have made an immediate and significant impact, with each new player performing at an exceptionally high level.

This impressive form has sparked discussions about Tottenham’s potential as title contenders. However, one of the concerns is the squad’s lack of depth, which could be exposed if injuries occur during the season.

With Tottenham only involved in the Premier League this season, the club has an advantage of having a lighter fixture schedule compared to the title rivals.

But to maintain their title challenge, they may need to reinforce their squad during the upcoming January transfer window.

Former Premier League midfielder Steve Sidwell has offered his thoughts on the potential reinforcements Tottenham should pursue in January.

He believes that Spurs should focus on bolstering their attack and finding a suitable replacement for Richarlison, who has struggled since joining the club.

Sidwell suggests moving Son Heung-min back to his natural position on the left wing and bringing in a striker, particularly naming Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins as possible targets.

He believes that this adjustment would provide Tottenham with a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Sidwell said:

“If you had to swap him out and you had to put one new player into Spurs you’d probably go with a striker, whether you go for Ivan Toney or Ollie Watkins up top and then you move Son out to the left, then you have a squad there that can really challenge.”

TBH Says:

We do not agree entirely with Sidwell. Why change something which is working so well. Son ever since being moved to the centre has been brilliant under Ange. He has scored 8 goals and assisted 1 in 10 games.

That being said, both Watkins and Toney have proven over the years that they are some of the top strikers in the league and would definitely improve the team.
