Sport| Spurs ‘on the scene with force’ to secure star Xavi Hernandez has cooled interest in

The backline is an area that Tottenham Hotspur wants to strengthen, as they want to add a central defender to go along with Cristian Romero and Eric Dier. The north London club has been linked to various players, including FC Barcelona’s Clément Lenglet.

Sport reports that both clubs are in advanced talks, and manager Antonio Conte wants to convince the central defender to accept the proposal from the Premier League side.

Spurs and Barcelona are closing in on a one-year loan deal for the 27-year-old, despite the La Liga club preferring that Tottenham sign the central defender permanently.

The north London club would be willing to deal with a large part of the player’s wages in the summer move. Furthermore, a conversation between Conte and Lenglet could take place as soon as next week to help accelerate the deal.

Lenglet appeared in 27 fixtures last season for Barcelona, but isn’t a name that Xavi Hernandez is counting on him for next season.
