Spurs star ‘on the decline’, club ‘keeping an eye’ on 23-yr-old as replacement

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly looking to bring in a talented young goalkeeper as the long-term replacement for club captain Hugo Lloris.

The 35-year-old has regressed in recent months and Spurs are already looking at potential replacements.

According to a report from JeneusFooteux, the Premier League side have identified Alban Lafont as a potential target for the summer transfer window. Spurs are ‘keeping an eye’ on the player.

The 23-year-old has been outstanding for FC Nantes and his performances have caught the attention of national team manager Didier Deschamps as well.

The young shot-stopper has recently been called up to the national side and it will be interesting to see if he can establish himself as their first-choice keeper in the coming years.

Lloris isn’t getting any younger and therefore the succession planning needs to start soon. He has been a key player for the club over a number of years and Spurs will miss his leadership qualities as well.

However, his recent performances have been quite poor and the report claims that the Tottenham hierarchy is convinced that Lloris is ‘on the decline’ and they need to bring in a goalkeeper at the end of the season.

Lafont has a contract with Nantes until the summer of 2024 and he could be available for a reasonable price at the end of the season. With just a year remaining on his contract then, Spurs would have the advantage while negotiating his transfer fee.
