Spurs Players Ought To Brace Themselves For A Massive Wage Cut

By The Boy -

550 non-playing staff at Tottenham Hotspur have today taken a pay cut. This, Mr. Levy assures us is to “protect jobs”.

Just when I was still coming to terms with of outlandish generosity demonstrated by Eddie Hearn who was promising to give away 200 TV passes to his boxing channel when the sport recommenced, I’m not hit with this nonsense.

How much is 20% of the non-playing staff salary bill? I’m sure a forensic examination of the club’s accounts would provide the answer, however, the short answer is “not a lot in the scheme of things”. And my choice of follow-up questions would be the following: To what purpose is this cut being made?

It would appear that Mr. Levy’s pay cuts are less about saving fortunes and more designed to show the players that we’re all in this together.

Outside the game, Tim Martin of Wetherspoons fame tried to bin his 40,000+ pub staffers overnight and was frogmarched into making a U-turn after a vicious backlash on social media, swiftly followed by a petition from MPs. However, the only multimillionaire in Tim’s business is him. Whereas at Spurs, there are literally dozens of them, currently idling about.

The Athletic understands that discussions are afoot to scythe player salaries of Premier League – as has been agreed in elsewhere – notably Spain where Messi & Co., at Barcelona are taking a 70% hit on wages while matches are suspended.

Staff at Celtic have taken a 50% cut and this too was designed to give the playing staff some writing on the wall to read.

Quite why grown men earning more a week than the average people trafficker have to ‘asked nicely’ to take a cut is beyond me.

Nearly £500mil turnover. nearly £90 profit. Joe paid levy £3.5 mil. Seems fair enough to me.

Also found out from the Independent Spurs are still paying Mauricio Pochettino. He will defo not be taking any wage cut.

According to the Guardian the £3 million bonus is deferred, assume that he can still pick it up later. The Barcelona players took a 70 percent wage cut but 2 percent goes to the wages of non playing staff so that they still receive 100 percent of their wages. Premier League players have yet to decide on wage cuts. Won’t cost Levy anything if staff only get 80 percent of the government scheme. I won’t be holding my breath on a season ticket cost reduction to help fans facing financial issues.

Just read an article in the Mail where Levy is expecting the players and Jose to take pay cuts. One thing staggered me,apparently N’Dombele is on a par with Kane at 200K/week.Another financial master stroke from our famed chairman.

According to sky news Levy gave himself a 3million bonus for completing the stadium! Which ruined our team and plunged us into debt… Not just the chairman, he owns 30 per cent of enic. The man is minted, how about share that 3 mil around the staff. Or give it to vulnerable people who will really need it.

And how much of a pay cut is the bald midget taking?

You know, the useless waster sabotaging this club, sucking 3.5M/yr in salary like that parasite he is.

David Graeber’s excellent ‘Bullshit Jobs’ has never been more relevant than it is in these weird times.

Rest assured that any scheme thought up by Levy will be to his advantage and will cost ENIC nothing. Somebody can probably correct me but is the scheme limited to refunds of 3K a month and anyone on more than 50K/yr. doesn’t benefit. Also the scheme doesn’t kick in for two months. This will be an initial nudge towards the players to offer to take their reduction.
Sadly this whole situation highlights the vast difference in wealth between the clubs at the top and those at the bottom.Unless the FA and the PL make provision to help the lower league clubs I fear quite a number will go to the wall. The top clubs in Germany are leading the way with players donating their salaries to help out the smaller clubs.

His statement is preparing a justification for a continued lack of on field ambition over the summer that will be the catalyst for Kane’s departure….”due to exceptional circumstances out of the club’s control we were unable to invest in players as we had planned this summer and Harry Kane chose to leave. No one player is greater than our club and our priority is to secure a stability for future generations. In order to achieve this we have regretfully been forced to increase season ticket prices by 25%. We are all in this together. Daniel.”

Levy is one of only two Premier League chairman to have taken advantage of furlough, the other being Mike Ashley.

Yes Daniel is talking a 20 per cent cut in his
£4 million salary according to the Independent.

What a wonker. I sincerely hope that Levy is including himself in this.
This beggars belief. How can we be the first club to come out and make a statement like this. Our turnover was £482 million last year with a healthy profit reported. How are the lower league clubs surviving? What message does this send to the likes of Harry Kane? There is no point hanging around son – go and join a club that will match your ambition.

Word is Levy doesn’t want to get on the wrong side of the players and wants the PFA and Premier League to do the dirty work of telling the players to take a wage cut. And by the way this doesn’t look like it’s going to to cost Daniel anything he’s pushing the cost onto the government scheme, you’d have get up very early to get one over on Daniel. And there seems to be a lot of talk of players taking not a wage cut, but a wage deferral. Isn’t life just grand, all of us being in this together.
