Spurs man tipped to join Southampton to replace outgoing star

Japhet Tanganga has been tipped to join Southampton in the summer as a replacement for Ryan Bertrand.

The Saints have given up on signing the former Chelsea man to a new deal and they will have to replace him now.

Bertrand has rejected their contract offer and it seems most likely that he will leave them at the end of this season.

His departure would leave them short at the back and reports have linked a number of players with a move to Saint Marys as his replacement.

One of them is Tanganga who broke into the Tottenham first team last season under Jose Mourinho.

The 22-year-old was initially brought into the team as a centre-back, but he has shown that he can be reliable in different positions across the back four.

Mourinho trusted him as a member of the squad and would often turn to him when one of his senior players was underperforming.

The Portuguese has been fired and Tanganga will need to impress the club’s next manager to remain around the first team.

If Spurs decides to sell Tanganga, Hampshire Live says Southampton could move for him as a replacement for Bertrand.

Spurs have done business with the Saints before now with both teams swapping Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for Kyle Walker-Peters at the start of this season.
