Spurs making progress in naming Serie A winning manager as their next boss

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham is eyeing a sensational move for former Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte.

The Italian is one of the world’s best managers and has just helped Inter Milan to win a Serie A title after 11 years.

Juventus had dominated the competition for the last nine years and he helped the Old Ladies start their winning spree.

Spurs fired Jose Mourinho and have now been linked with a move for several top managers around the world.

Corriere Dello Sport via Daily Mail says they have an eye on Conte and he is also not ruling out the possibility of making a return to London.

He was Chelsea’s manager for two seasons and won the Premier League in his first campaign and the FA Cup in his second season before being replaced by fellow Italian, Maurizio Sarri.

Tottenham wants a manager that will help them win trophies and there is hardly a surer bet than Conte.

The report says he remains committed to Inter, but he is open to a move elsewhere and a return to London might entice him.

Naming Conte as their manager will show that Spurs are really committed to breaking back into the top four and ending their trophy drought.

Can’t see Levy going for another serial winner and risk demonstrating to the world, yet again, how no mortal being could breathe life into this former football club; especially one that would carry a sizeable compensation fee

True. Just can’t ever see it happening with enic in charge.

Does it matter who? Unless they splash out on a really weak defence no manager will succeed

If this is true, now you’re talking! If the Spurs players thought Jose was a hard ass……

What about our players set themselves very low standards which, unfortunately, they are unable to achieve!

“they need a hand around the shoulder to be distinctly average!” Very droll.

A lot of us likely won’t be above ground the next time Spurs lift the title, I’m afraid.

A sure winner until he arrives in a particular part of North London!

Isn’t Conte in the same mould as Mourinho? I think he’d be a great choice but half the Spurs squad would disagree. Imagine if they actually had to train hard for their money?!

The best guy for this job is sitting at home twiddling his fingers, should be Allegri!

Fired by Chelsea for falling out with the board over signings and then in a similar situation at Inter. What ever could go wrong with Levy in charge?

I think a lot of Managers Agents are touting them for the Spurs job to negotiate a better deal with their current club. Ten Hag and now Conte.

We will end up with Sarri, Chelsea fans I know are wetting themselves.

Well he won’t be able to help us win a PL/1st Div title after goodness knows how many years, so long I’ve forgotten tbh. I think I was in a nappy at the time.
An impossibility with Scrooge McTightface at the helm.

With so many links to so many potential managers , it seems to me there is no real leading player and the media are inventing again.

“Naming Mourinho Conte as their manager will show that Spurs are really committed to breaking back into the top four and ending their trophy drought.”

At Inter, he won the league, because the squad listened to him and toughened up to win their first title in a decade, i. e. let him change the loser mentality. Also, the management got him Lukaku, Hakimi, Eriksen, Vidal, Barella, Sensi, Politano and quite a few older, but still decent players (Kolarov, Young, Sanchez, Godin, Moses) – back a guy who knows how to win, and surprise surprise, he wins.

Given our eyewatering debt and inability to raise money by selling deadwood, we are largely stuck with what we have. Why would he swap a title-winning side, which he will take into the CL on a wave of euphoria, for 18 months with our stale, ageing squad of players who have refused to push on under Poch, Jose and whoever the next guy is?

It would be nice to see Conte ruffle feathers and shout his hairdo off at our wasters, but that’s also what Jose was persistently lambasted for doing. Our guys don’t respond well to pressure and “demanding more” – they need a hand around the shoulder to be distinctly average.
