Spurs ‘looking’ at 6ft 4in colossus as a replacement for key star

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

The 22-year-old is reportedly being looked at as the long-term alternative to club captain Hugo Lloris.

The Tottenham star will soon be past his peak and he needs replacing. According to the reliable Phil Hay from the Athletic, Spurs are one of the few clubs keeping tabs on the 22-year-old Frenchman.

Hay said on his podcast: “It’s quite interesting that Spurs are one of the clubs looking at him as Lloris is getting into his mid-30s now and he is out of contract in 2024 and you would assume that Tottenham would now be looking at a succession plan for him.”

The 6’4″ goalkeeper has done exceedingly well since moving to Elland Road and he could be a quality long-term acquisition for Tottenham.

The player has a long-term contract with Leeds and it will be interesting to see if Tottenham can prise him away from Elland Road at the end of the season.

Meslier is yet to reach his peak right and he is likely to improve immensely with coaching and game time. The 22-year-old is already playing at a very high level in the Premier League and he has the potential to develop into a top-class player in the future.

If Spurs can agree on a reasonable fee with Leeds for the talented young shot-stopper, the move could look like a masterstroke in the long run.

Reasonable fee? I doubt Spurs would have any idea what one of those were
