“Over the moon” – Spurs striker Dominic Solanke reveals who he called first after England news

Dominic Solanke has revealed his ‘delight’ at being recalled back to the England national team, recalling how he found out the news.

The 27-year-old made a big move to Tottenham over the summer after netting 21 goals across all competitions for Bournemouth last season — including 19 in 38 Premier League appearances.

After a tough start with Spurs, Solanke has found his footing, heading into the October break with three goals and two assists to his name across all competitions, all coming in his last four starts.

As a result, Solanke has earned an England call-up for the first time since 2017, when he picked up his only cap to date in a 0-0 friendly draw with Brazil.

Solanke is ‘delighted’ to be back in the England mix, seeing it as a reward for his hard work.

“I’ve been working, working, working,” Solanke said (via Tottenham’s official website). “It’s been a good few years and it’s been a while since I’ve been here so I’m delighted to be back – back with the boys and representing my country.

“There’s still a few familiar faces and I know a few of the boys, and obviously back at St George’s Park. So it’s nice. It’s good.”

Dominic Solanke ‘buzzing’ to be back for England

Solanke was recovering from Tottenham’s 2-1 win away at Ferencvaros in the Europa League when he got the call from England interim boss Lee Carsley.

“I actually had a game on the Thursday so I was waiting for, hopefully, the call in the morning.” Solanke recalled. “I got the message to give him a call. I called him, we had a chat and he notified me that I would be in the squad. So from that moment, I was obviously buzzing.”

On who he called first upon getting the news, he added: “My mum. She was obviously over the moon. She’s followed my whole career so it’s a special moment for her as well.”
