Spurs defender reluctantly contemplating summer exit as ‘chances stacked’ against him

A source close to the club tells The Boy Hotspur that Joe Rodon is giving serious thought to his next career steps. Since joining Tottenham, the boy has really struggled to get any meaningful game-time. One comment made to me was that he feels that the chances of that changing anytime soon are stacked against him, as he is competing against players in whom the club has made a greater investment. The costs of Cuti Romero and Davinson Sanchez eclipse what Spurs paid for the Welshman.

Under the watchful eye of agents Stellar (Gareth Bale et al.) the strategy is not to rule out a pleasing offer come January, but to aim to use next summer’s window as a springboard to first-team football.

For Wales, Rodon has been a reliable pick and even to the moderately untrained eye, this is a player one would be interested to know more about. At 24, Rodon needs to do something in order to get his domestic career on track, before time passes him by.

I have said this before but maybe Tottenham could do their homework on players before purchasing them.

It would save an awful lot of bother.

I’d rather see Doherty out the door. I’d rather see Rodon playing instead of Dier.

It’s abysmal recruitment.

Agree and it cannot be just bad luck that these players are unreliable.

I can only see a loan, at this stage.

Doesn’t make sense to me that he can’t get on the pitch, he will undoubtedly become a regular PL player though, and he is still improving. I doubt Dier and Sanchez will eradicate their errors and Romero still has to show he can fulfill his potential.

Sorry Levy wasted your time Joe, you aren’t the first and I doubt you’ll be the last!

How many so called ‘prospects’ has levy brought in since a Poch left that have done nothing to improve the team? Rodon, Fernandez, Stevie B, Sessingnon, Gil.

Not to mention the Clinton Cards, NoClues and Vinny Janssen’s of this world. 23 years of doing it on the cheap and one minor trophy to show for it. Is that shrewdness or acceptance of failure as part of the way you run the show? The latter, I would wager… 🤔

I used to try and refrain from criticising GLC too much because when he did play for us (while on loan under Mourinho), he really seemed like a guy that could do a job for us. However, that was two years ago and that’s a long time in football.

If we can’t get people like him, Tanguy, and Romero playing regularly, let’s just get rid.

Might as well get another AM in as N’Belly can’t play an entire game and Lo NoShow is a permanent resident of the treatment room and on the rare occasions he does trot out is underwhelming. This is our problem no playmaker to serve Harry and Son with chances.
We deffo need a another striker (and have done for years), a playmaker of the Eriksen mould, a class CB and a RB who knows how to cross. It’s obscene that the squad has been allowed to stagnate like this.

Conte was clear he sees Rodon in the Dier role in the back 3. Even with the Dier brain farts he cannot seem dislodge him would be a bigger concern.
There needs to be a decision is Conte fancies him, but at least needs to go on loan and get minutes.

Puzzling. Then again, Jose, Nuno, and AC all preferred other players to Rodon, including such fan favourites as Sanchez and Dier.

Also, if the money argument carried such weight, shouldn’t Ndombele be playing most games instead of Winks/Skipp/PEH?
