Spurs could already break key promise they made to Conte before he got the job

Tottenham reportedly assured Antonio Conte that Harry Kane could remain a part of his plans for the future despite ongoing speculation over his future.

It seems this was a key vow made by Spurs to Conte before he took the job, according to ESPN, though they now add that Daniel Levy could still be tempted to cash in on Kane if a good enough offer comes in in the January transfer window.

This certainly seems a risky strategy by Levy if the report is accurate, as we’ve seen just how much things can blow up with Conte if he isn’t given what he wants in terms of transfer decisions.

That was where it all went wrong for the Italian tactician during his time at Chelsea, and it seemed to be the case at Inter Milan as well, with the club unable to keep Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi due to financial issues this summer, when Conte also departed.

Tottenham surely cannot afford to backtrack on Kane, even if his form hasn’t been the best so far this season.

The England international is a world class talent on his day, and Conte could be ideal to get him back to his best. He should be given that chance, rather than face losing him straight away.
