Spurs beat a surely doomed Norwich

Antonio Conte extended his unbeaten Premier League (PL) run with Tottenham Hotspur to four games with an emphatic 3-0 win over Norwich, as the away side remained rooted to the bottom of the table.

The hosts had the opportunity to win their fifth consecutive league home H2H against Norwich, and a rocket from Lucas Moura set them on their way after ten minutes. The Brazilian exchanged passes with Heung-Min Son and after weighing up his options, unleashed a powerful strike from 25-yards into the top left corner.

Sergio Reguilón was forced off with injury as the ‘Canaries’ fought back and took command of proceedings, although this was where Conte’s side were at their best. Harry Kane, who has only notched one goal this campaign, should have doubled Spurs’ lead nine minutes before HT, when he inexplicably chipped well wide of the mark after Tim Krul found himself in no man’s land.

With the game in the balance the visitors’ confidence grew, and Brandon Williams was causing problems for Tottenham down the left wing. They should have equalised when the young loanee skipped past Japhet Tanganga and played the ball to Teemu Pukki who mishit the shot into Adam Idah, who deflected it wide.

However, with a flurry of attacks, Spurs won a corner and put the result beyond doubt with 23 minutes to play. Son crossed the ball into the near post, allowing Ben Davies to head the ball down to Davinson Sánchez, who thrashed in his first goal since 2018/19 from close range. Son added another for good measure, latching onto an accurate pass into the box from Ben Davies and firing a final goal past Krul, wrapping up a comfortable win for the hosts.

Conte’s positive influence keeps ‘Spurs’ in the running for a European spot next campaign, rising to fifth in the table and only two points behind high-flying West Ham in fourth. Meanwhile Norwich stay at the base of the table on only 10 points, a lower tally at this stage than in each of their last four relegated PL campaigns.
