Goodness, me, there really has been some substandard social media reporting of this entire Covid-19 business at Spurs. With numerous commentators providing us with a running commentary of scraps of disinformation. opposed to waiting and presenting fans with final outcomes, and considered positions.
My thanks to ESPN for charting the right course, and now running with the understanding that the situation at Spurs was only getting worse in terms of numbers of those infected, and now the club was unable to present the ‘magic’ number of 13 first-team players.
Get French Football had been churning out all manner of angst, which rather unhelpfully was then recycled by the Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick. Sometimes. one best bet is to wait and see what the final fare in your taxi amounts to, opposed to passing comment upon every increasing click of the meter.
It struck me as highly probable that the infected tally at Hotspur Way was likely to increase in the forthcoming hours, and the situation would unravel itself.
The game will be rescheduled and that too will bring its own challenges, Perhaps we all might try to see how that plays out, opposed to charging around like wet hens, as we wait for the date to be announced?
17 down votes mmmmmm
Truth hurts
Comparing the old UEFA cup and what we now have with the Ropey, and worse still the Ropey Con isn’t for people of sound mind. The European Cup only had domestic league winners in it. So the UEFA Cup would generally been as hard to win with everyone else in it. The current setup is a complete mess…
‘surely we need to progress organically’
We’ve been ‘progressing organically’ for over two decades mate, how have you been spending the last 23 years?
With your head up your ar*e?
Funny thing is he is not actually joking.
But the Uefa Cup in those days had genuinely good teams in it and a strength in depth that actually made it the hardest competition to win in Nicholson’s – as well as my- opinion. The Cup Winners Cup was in reality a little suspect, quality- wise, though you usually only got in the tournament by actually winning something, your country’s national cup competition, though you could get in as runners up if the winners had also won the league. By comparison now, a team from a major nation gets into the Europa by finishing no higher than 5th! And the Conference by being as low as 7th! They’re basically PLATE competitions!
Ha ha ,I like your way of thinking.
Oh dont get me wrong, totally agree with you. I am just stating how people are reacting from multiple comments form multiple sites about the Europa Conference League.
* silly little boy removed*
What form does your fighting take, beyond aggressive posturing online?
Bed wetter alert
But we were for several seasons. So what you are saying is that was a highpoint and we should all accept EL Conference from now on?
Not me pal I am a fighter not a melt.
Tottenham shouldn’t be expected to be in the top European competition or to win trophies. They have hardly ever done either since the beginning of professional football.
I assure you rhis is true, go check it out.
It is funny the football, Jan Vertonghen, Gedson Fernandes and Adel Taarabt all ex Spurs players are playing Champions League last 16 knock out stage, while their ex friends Harry Kane Son etc are struggling to qualify next round of Europa Conference Cup.
So there are 24 prem games left, potentially 4 carabao cup, 6 fa cup, 8+ conf league and maybe 10+ intl games = 52+ potential games to be played in a little over 5 months (22 weeks). Then an 8 week “break” with intl friendlies, before a mad dash to the WC in Nov begins. Do the math this makes no sense at all, especially for a threadbare team like Spurs with only 12-14 dependable, mostly avg players.
I think it’s staggering that fans of a club that has struggled for so long to actually tangibly win a football related trophy (only the league cup umpteen years ago), would have such a sanctimonious and arrogant attitude to this competition.
Of course it’s not the CL but as has been proven, we do not deserve to be in that competition, nor do we even deserve to be in the Europa League (who many of the same fans were also sneering at a few years back).
In order to climb back to where we WANT to be, surely we need to progress organically. We cannot just expect to be back in the CL or top four because we were there for a small period a few years ago. When we qualified for this cup, it was underwhelming but coupled with the knowledge that for Spurs, it is a winnable competition. I remember thinking maybe only Roma were on our level. If we win it, it give the players, fans and club as a whole a boost; a step up towards the next level of improvement and credibility. With some teams from Europa League drooping into it in the knockout stages and other teams like Rennes who’ve proved themselves worthy this season, it’s a good benchmark of our ability to compete to win.
Let’s stop kidding ourselves (for now at least) that we are too good for competitions like the Europa Conference League or the English League Cup.
I think the players could do with tasting that winning feeling. Any winning feeling. From small acorns do great oaks grow……
I remember when we were the first winners of the old UEFA Cup in 1972. It replaced the old Inter City Fairs Cup and back then was considered less prestigious than the European Cup and the Cup Winners Cup. I don’t remember Bill Nicholson or any of the fans I knew turning our noses up at it. And as you infer, given our recent history of winning pots, it’s not something we should be thumbing our noses at.
Why do a certain section of Spurs fans think they are better than they are. The competition has proved to be of a high standard. Rennes are second in French league and the drop downs from the Europa league are mouth watering. Napoli who are leading Italian Leaguecould be one of them. Only the English tried to label it as mickey mouse.the other 200 teams all tried their best.
“we need a high profile team to put out they’ve had an ‘outbreak’ to push the new variant narrative”
Levy: “oooh!? ME! ME! ”
2 tricky away trips in a week or so, off , and any potential derailing of the Conte brave new world mark 12 propaganda nicely swerved.
It’s come up roses again.
I was hoping that UEFA would forced the match and had hoped that we would just forfeit this match because the way I see it, this is a lose-lose tournamet. Win it and people will say its a 3rd tier cup, lose and get mocked for getting dumped out of a 3rd tier tournament.
Also if UEFA would force the match, it would be interesting to see the reaction because quite frankly they only care about $$ and not the integrity and health of the game and its players
I was secretly hoping we’d be dumped out of the whole pointless affair this evening. As a trophy it’s not worth the effort. If we did win it (highly unlikely considering our self harming in Europe), there would be no boasting about it as it’s a conference league that makes the league cup look like the CL by comparison. Bloody thing should be cancelled completely. Daft idea in the first place – as if there aren’t already enough games in the calendar what with those nauseating international breaks. Bah!
