Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has now fired a warning to players who might end up staying at the club despite being on the unwanted list.
Spurs have a number of fringe players at their disposal who have been difficult to shift for a number of reasons. However, they do not have a future at the club and they are unlikely to get ample game time at Tottenham this season.
It would make sense for these players to move on and join a club where they will get regular first-team football.
Players like Davinson Sanchez, Tanguy Ndombele etc. have all been linked with moves away from the club in recent weeks. However, Spurs have not been able to agree on deals to sell them yet.
It will be interesting to see if the situation changes before the transfer deadline.
Tottenham can only accommodate 25 players in their squad list and Postecoglou believes that the rest would have to face the axe if they decided to stay.
He said to Evening Standard: “Players have got their own reasons for making these decisions but ultimately, come the deadline, we’re going to have to name a 25-man list and we’ve got more than that at the moment, so some people are going to miss out. It’s up to them to decide the next step.
“From my perspective, we haven’t excluded anyone from training. The numbers in training are manageable right now and while they’re manageable I don’t see the need to do anything different.”
