Sky Sports: Spurs all of a sudden linked with £30m rated player dubbed as ‘the future Cristiano Ronaldo’

According to Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas, Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on AS Monaco forward Gelson Martins.

Spurs are actively seeking new attacking reinforcements in the transfer market ahead of tonight’s deadline. They have been linked with Daniel James but are now looking for alternatives as the Welshman is reportedly on his way to Fulham.

Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas provided an update on the situation at Hotspur Way to the ‘Transfer Centre.’ He said:

“Tottenham are considering their options in the transfer market, with a deal for Leeds United winger Daniel James looking unlikely at this stage.

“One of the names under discussion is 27-year-old Monaco forward Gelson Martins, who is said to be keen to come to the Premier League.

“Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte are said to have met to consider their other options in the market this morning.

“Portugal international Martins fits the profile of a player who can play on either the left or right wing.”

The 27-year-old who was once dubbed as ‘the future Cristiano Ronaldo’ could be allowed to leave Monaco if the right offer comes in. The next few hours will determine whether Tottenham’s interest is genuine, which could accelerate the move.

Tottenham hopes to reach an agreement in the coming hours, as the summer transfer window is rapidly approaching its end. It’s unclear how much a deal for the Portugal international would cost at this point but he cost the Ligue 1 club around £27m. Martins may be a better deal for Conte to make because he appears to be a far greater threat than James and is versatile to play on either side of the attack.
