Sky Sports presenter drops an interesting comment on Conte’s first transfer window

Sky Sports’ Michael Bridge is a character in the footballing firmament worth having on your ‘follow’ list for no other reason than he only speaks in an adult form, opposed to perpetually mumbling about ‘hearing’ this that or the other when sharing from the conveyor belt of mixed treats that emerge from football club’s press offices. There is a filter in place.

I am a fan of managers that have a strong sense of direction, that have clear ambitions and targets. In the top flight, there are very few long-term spots for coaches that are continually emasculated by their employers. Conte’s track record suggests he would know who he needs, and the intelligence he exudes would suggest to me that he would know how to frame his requests to the ever problematic Tottenham board. Antonio will know whom he needs to get sold in order to raise funds. For all the gentle improvement that has been honed at Hotspur Way, there are players that have run their course.

This puts the burden of responsibility firmly on Levy’s & Co’s shoulders. Fingers crossed, that our dynamic CEO isn’t distracted by the limited charms of bargain buys, or bigger picture stadium business, this time around, eh?

I think we’ve seen enough from Winks in recent weeks for him to get another chance. He is far more forward thinking than the Ray Wilkins clone he had morphed into. I personally would like to see him and Skipp as the double pivot. Dele has to go. He was back to his worst yesterday. Lazy, disinterested, casual in possession. Trouble is who will take him?

If the fee is more than 10 mill, levy wont pay for someone with 5 months left on their contract..

History tells us that this transfer window will be no different to any other under Levy’s stewardship.

Expect to be linked with high profile names that will fizzle out and die but give hope to the cult of levy fans.

Expect last minute loan deals and possibly some French no mark with a name that begins with an N’

welcome to transfer windows al la Tottenham style Antonio.

Yeah, it is like having a party and telling home owner. Can you stay in the basement until it is all over. That will work. Were are readying ourselves for if the meal taste good Levy was no where near the kitchen. Personally, I think Paratici and Conte has the reins to steer things in this window. January will be as always very difficult. Franck Kessie is the problem child in this window, do we pay or wait until summer. Dusan V not leaving Florence until the summer unless City decides to lose their collective heads and pay $80m. If we can move Dele, Winks and Doherty we would have a successful Window. The problem is we would need to either sign local lads or tap into the academy to cover 2 two home grown. Newcastle looks like they would be a good landing place for Winks, not sure who would take Alli, Doherty we should just pay him to stay away. The 2 guys I would really try to bring in are Lenglet and Nandez. We have a shot to win the FA or league cup the spacing in the fixture after Feb should help once we make up the games on hand.

Levy will soon realise that working with Conte will require him to not mess people around in his usual style. This is how a top football club is actually run Daniel, wake up and smell the coffee…

You’re probably right, which is why we have second rate backup goalies like Hart and Gollini, mainly down to homegrown status rather than quality.

It will certainly be interesting, January to an extent but the summer is the big one for me. If Conte starts as our manager next season fully happy with his squad then fantastic. There’s a lot of time for certain things to transpire before the summer window shuts, lets hope our esteemed chairman refrains from pi*sing everyone off. yet again…

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren’t we on the limit of homegrown quotas. As most of the dross would seem to be homegrown and the names linked to us are not, there would appear to be a problem balancing the numbers.

Buying homegrown players would incur a heftier outlay presumably. We certainly need ready made PL starters who won’t need 18 months to acclimatise.I just hope Hitchens is nowhere near the decision making.

If left to their own devices Conte and Paratici will bring in the kind of quality to take us into the top 4 and maybe even win a trophy. However they need to lock Levy in a cupboard somewhere in Hotspur Way until the transfer window is closed.

Well you’d have to say the same half dozen names seem to be circulating – all seem of first team quality, but time will tell whether any of these are the ones that actually turn up.
