Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.
The 21-year-old has been an important player for the German club this season and Tottenham are keeping tabs on the Ecuador international as they look to improve their defensive department.
Antonio Conte is reportedly looking to bring in a quality defensive partner for Cristian Romero and he has identified the Bundesliga player as a potential target.
However, Sky Sports broadcaster Kevin Hatchard has now revealed that Tottenham should look to sign the talented young defender if they are willing to be patient with him and give him the opportunity to fulfill his potential at the English club.
Hatchard is worried that the young defender might not get too many opportunities at Tottenham if he makes mistakes.
He added that the 21-year-old is a player with tremendous potential but he is still quite raw and Spurs will have to give him consistent opportunities in order for him to fulfill his potential.
He said (h/t Football Transfer Tavern): “I said raw about [Georginio] Rutter, I still feel that about Hincapie. I think there is a tremendous young player in there, but he does make mistakes.
“He’s given away penalties, he’s been sent off, he’s made bad passes, things like that. If you’re willing to stick with him and give him game time and let him develop – fine. If you’re going to stick him on a bench, that would be a big worry, for me.”
Recently Tottenham signed Djed Spence from Middlesbrough and the young right-back has not been given ample opportunities to prove himself. It will be interesting to see if the talented young defender is sent out on loan before the January window closes.
