With Toby Alderweireld’s widely mooted departure to sunnier and wealthier climes underway, our attention turns to the business of a replacement.
Sky Sport Italia understands that Spurs are negotiating for Christian Romero and to date, the deal is just €10million from being agreeable to both parties.
Levy is going all out with this one, offering the Atalanta boy a five-year-deal. Personal terms are agreed, and the defender is keen to move to north London.
As things stand, Atalanta are seeking €40/45million plus a further €10million in prospective add-ons.
Given that Toby has reportedly gone for €14million (more than we paid for him), Spurs have just wiped £120,000 off the wage bill and the Belgian gets himself an £80,000 a week pay rise, this is good business all round.
So far, Tottenham have brought in approximately £13.50 for Juan Foyth, and £14.00 from Toby Alderweireld, and spent half that on a back-up goalkeeper.
This deal for Romero will take Levy into the red.
