Should Dulux Have Apologized For Trolling Spurs? |opinion

By The Boy -

Awkward and meaningless stuff from the paint people here; whilst I would imagine most fans found it harmless and quite funny, stunts with sponsors only work if everyone knows that it’s a stunt. Even then, consumers have been hit left right and centre over the years with every scenario imaginable and in the final analysis, a product of service is probably better off just aligning itself with another brand. ‘Afternoon drama, brought to you by Fred’s Pie Stall’, or whatever.

The apology will cause many in the industry to wince in respect of an investigation. It was ‘Dave’ or whoever does their social, and he simply lost the run of himself. Hopefully ‘Dave’ has other responsibilities for Dulux for which he is valued and nobody loses their job.

Dulux are likely to take dim view of given the probable amounts of money involved. This will not have been an inexpensive deal – although was Dulux used on the build? It seems a little late to rolling out what effectively could have been seen as a build partner.

Spurs then ran the above tweet, which is funny but also takes us into the muddy waters of a duff signing. Hey everyone, the Dulux dog had to delete a tweet like that Arsenal fan we wasted all that money on.

This looks like a classic lose/lose day of marketing.

A step too literal, indeed.

I think he meant you are young rather than not a fan as in “not a fan THEN” rather than “not a fan, then”. Anyway, you are right: Pony sponsored the Spurs Kit, and HP were our team sponsors.

when they promised we were getting a deluxe stadium I think this was a step too literal

Dulux are just trying to gloss over the issue. 🍀

“What would you rather do on a Saturday afternoon, emulsion the bedroom or watch Spurs?” could be an advertising slogan.

When even rolling out sponsorship deals is still bad press/egg on face you know Spurs are trapped in one of those negative spirals

Winning the cup final next week is the only remedy, City can be beat

Wise words… Other threads shut now but a couple others tying to tell me that Gerrard didn’t win any titles at Liverpool! Errrr yeah everyone knows he never won the prem.. I clearly said Champions league plus others, including a treble… Real Madrid holds the record right now for the most CL titles.. Some right dummies creeping on here in recent years. Wanna argue with me because they don’t understand what ‘titles’ are 😳

Here we go again more nonsense… Not a fan?.. Pony was Spams sponsor.. We were never sponsored by pony. It was Hewlett packard who was our sponsor then. Pony just made the kit…… Before then Holsten was our sponsor while adidas made the kit…. Baleficent you 🔔🔚

May be An Arsenal fans hacked their Twitter account, just stating the facts no harm here as I see it.

He wasn’t a fan then, clearly. That wasn’t a fun time to be wearing that in a very Arsenal and Manure dominated area!!

Dulux! Because Spurs are as exciting as watching paint dry!… Reminds me of when Spam were sponsored by Pony. Pony and trap in cockney means cr@p.

Pre ENIC…..The world famous Spurs, Tottenham Hotspur fc, from White Hart Lane…one of the big 5 and cup connosuirs…..Glory Glory

Post ENIC ….running parody of the sport who’s sponsers can’t even respect them. Anchor tenants in a mall with a fold away surface..Trophyless

What it does prove those in charge at the White elephant shopping mall are not worried about being mocked over lack of silver in the cabinet.

I’d say it’s good publicity, it’s got noticed, we’re talking about it, I’m sure it’s doing the rounds on social media.

No need to apologise, there’s more than enough other stuff to worry about.

Nihal, a big Spurs fan gave it a mention on his 5Live show this afternoon. You can’t buy advertising like that.
