Shaken up: It’s Conte’s Starting XI vs Fulham

It takes a special kind of magic to get one’s head around football transfer fees. One of Fulham’s summer signings was Carlos Vinicius, a player that spent a pretty joyless season on loan at Spurs two years ago. His fee, had we found he was someone we wanted to buy, was then some €45million. Needless to say, Fulham paid a mere £5 million for the boy.

Conte’s not all that happy with his squad, based upon the limited minutes his new signings have been offered and of course, the less than cheery comments made in his recent pressers.

Spurs will win by at least two goals this afternoon – that’s my guess, maybe there should be spot prizes for those that don’t nod/wander off before the final whistle is blown? Oh, sorry, I forgot, we are only allowed to make nasty comments about Mourinho-ball, and this is soooooooooo very different.

Again, the worrying part of your responses is that you think Dier is better than Coady. One is in the England set up, one isn’t and Southgate plays the same system as Conte. The only argument you have is that Conte picks him. Conte also plays Davies and Royal! Do you honestly believe Conte is happy with the squad and First XI we have?

You need to look at this objectively and not throw your toys out the cot by calling someone a ‘rando’, which I presume in adult speak is random!

Why does Conte play Dier? Have you seen the competition? Romero is the only good CB we have and Conte has to play Dier because there is not much choice. If we had got Conte’s preferred choice of Bastoni, Dier would no longer be in our First XI.

Mitrovic heading towards the golden boot. He’s got that touch this time round.

Made hard work if it again Richarlison is growing on me. Better from Sonny. another 3 points. Roll on Weds.

Conte, who sees him train every day, and has coached some of the best defenders to ever play the game rates him, but I’m sure some rando on the interwebz knows better than the gaffer.

Talking about Spurs full backs, those of us old enough on this blog to have remembered the consistently solid duo of Joe Kinnear and Cyril Knowles attracted minimal criticism!!

I actually think Royal is not all bad, his problem is he can’t pass at pace and takes too long, but out of him, Doherty, Reg and Sess i’d rather Royal as it stands….

Players, and mere mortals, show joy all the time without taking clothes off. It’s unnecessary, juvenile, and could take him closer to a suspension when he’s really needed for a match.

Scoring the winner in a cup final, maybe. If he really has to, otherwise, I’d stick electrodes on his nipples in the shower, and sit the child down in my office and explain the importance of his being available to me for as many matches as possible during the season.

Imagine Kane’s out injured for a semi or a final and Billy Sollocks is just starting a suspension for accumulated yellows, two of which are for showing his chest to fans. I’d be bloody furious.

I also remember that that ‘best defence in Europe’ was kinda leaky round the sides against top tier teams. Anyone remember adebayor doing us twice from the right within a few minutes in the CL against Madrid. Could have been Ekotto.

Still not offering the purely team-focused play that Deki consistently does. At least from my view. I love Sonny, wear his name at times, but he needs to be refocused back onto a team effort.

I agree for now. Let Son come on for him after getting a good mental picture of what he wants to do when getting back out there.

Playing with a top top Central defence pairing with dembers in front of it. If either one of them could cross to a young, hungry Harry who was more often than not in the right place in the box I think we win something.

That’s a bit Puritan innit. The man thought he had opened his account on his awarded start for hard work. Hard to begrudge him expressing a jolt of joy.

OK. We had ziege for a season before something god awful happened to his leg. What a difference he made to an otherwise awful team though.

In fairness, Walkies & Rosey were two fifths of the best defence in Europe for a whole season. And they weren’t far off the following season either.

We have had headless chickens at full back for as long as I can remember. I include Rose and walker in that and always thought they were the biggest meh in pochs best teams. Because they couldnt cross for money. Walker obv has his uses and has done well in a better team, Danny not so much. I’m encouraged by the purchases of perisic, spence and udogie? That we are finally taking this position more seriously. Donkey, Royal, sauscison and Davies for that matter can all do one. Can’t cross – f off.

But there is no brain in him. Which is a problem that probably results in low confidence when faced with decision making.

I see him as part of the future Spurs forward line. Present- Son(30), Kane(29), Richy(26)
Future- Deki(22), Bryan(21), Scarlett(18?)

Yup, it’s a slightly irritating interruption, but I’d prefer a correct decision more of the time than how it was with before. I used to get more irritated to see, for instance, a Spurs goal disallowed, but see it was a wrong decision on the replays, within seconds of the ref’s call. I think if VAR is removed, that’s fine, but then TV replays should be removed too. Returning to a situation where everyone except the referee can see replays would be ridiculous from my point of view.

CowSpurs

The most worrying part of your response is you rate Dier! He is not a good player and having him in our back line since Verts and Toby couldn’t ‘coach’ him in games has not progressed us.

Coady can actually pass a football long and short, defend and organise a defence. Dier cannot do any of this, hence why Coady has been ahead of him in the England set up for a while.

Whatever reason Lage doesn’t fancy Coady anymore may be because of his pace. As Everton will sit in he won’t get caught out much. In a 3 he would have fine for us.

Son was better as he looked to be able to take a touch, but got to start finishing his dinner or this condensed season could pass him by. At least he’s getting in the right areas to score, but still underperforming.

Charles is a menace, unlucky not to score 1 or 2 and must annoy the feck out of oppo defenders.

Romero is better than Sanchez.

Great to see Kane and Son getting some rest at the end ready for mid-week.

Royal ain’t it and likely to never be. Consistently poor in the final 3rd, barely able to handle simple build-up play and sharp passing under pressure. Is he really the best we’ve got?

Fulham looked useless today and still nearly nicked a draw, we should’ve been out of sight by half time with fringe players coming on and getting some minutes in. Better performance and got the win, but this is the bare minimum against teams like Fulham.

Not sure that would solve the problem of seeing close calls in real time. I have no problem with VAR most of the time.

We missed Bentancur last time out – he really does make our central midfield tick over smoothly. Calm on the ball and always looking for someone on the move.
Richarlison has great intensity but not as confident when on the ball – tends to rush things.
A better game all round today and on another day we would have had five or six.
Romero’s half tackle on Mitrovic was embarrassing.

Charli had a great match, as did Ddoris. Men of the match I thought.

Shame Charli’s volley didn’t go in, and that he was offside. If I was a manager and one of my players chose to have a yellow card by taking his shirt off, I’d slap him about in the changing room; really hard.
