Selling Harry Kane could be palatable but only if this one thing happens

The idea that Harry Kane should be sold is for the birds, he should not and Daniel Levy should rebuild the team around him, however, in the event he is, it could still be a good thing as long as the hierarchy at the club get one thing right.

That one thing is recruitment.

If Kane is sold, it is certain that it will be for a huge amount of money, money that should be re-investing in the squad.

Figures of between £100m and £200m have been mentioned and knowing what Levy is like then it is probably safe to assume that he will demand above the £100m mark.

So, let’s assume £125m is raised and that another £40m or so is raised via other player sales, we could then be looking at a transfer budget in the region of £150m-£200m

Now, that is some serious money in this day and age, it is not Mbappe or Haaland money but it is more than enough to bring in at least four top quality players.

To give you an example of players that were sold in the last summer transfer window for roughly £40m each we could have signed the likes of Leroy Sane, Diogo Jota, Alvaro Morata and Wesley Fofana. Additionally, other players sold in that region include Hakim Ziyech, Achraf Hakimi, Thomas Partey and Mauro Icardi (Via Transfermarkt).

Not all of those named above have been roaring successes and therein lies the risk, however, some clubs have got their recruitment down almost perfectly, Leicester City being a good example.

It is also the case that just throwing money at players is not certain to work, look at what we did with the Gareth Bale money and what Man Utd do on a regular basis.

Get the recruitment right and cashing in on Harry Kane does not need to be an unmitigated disaster for the club, however, get it wrong and the consequences could be with us for years.
