See where Tottenham rank on the latest Deloitte Money League

Tottenham is ranked 9th in the Deloitte Money League for the 2019/2020 season.

The Lilywhites have emerged as one of the biggest teams in England in recent seasons.

Their new stadium has also brought them into the limelight as one of the teams to watch, and it also shows their ambition to remain part of the Premier League’s elite family.

The Money League recognises the financial performance of the different teams in the 2019/2020 season, according to Sky Sports.

Despite the disruption brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, and the fact that teams lost so much revenue from the lack of fans at the end of the campaign, some clubs still made good money.

Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, and Liverpool were the top five.

Tottenham came 9th in the rankings after making £390.9m in the campaign, that was 15% less than they made in the previous period.

Refreshingly, Jose Mourinho’s side finished the rankings ahead of Italian giants Juventus, who placed 10th, and Arsenal who placed 11th.

The Gunners made just £340.3m, which confirms that Tottenham is truly now the biggest team in north London.

This season has also been hampered by the pandemic, and Tottenham’s absence from the Champions League will affect their earnings.

We will never have as much as the Madrids or PSGs of the world.. Never ever can we compete with these guys for spending on players or wages.. So we have to be clever and efficient, like when Leicester won the league, and like when Sir Alex and co got going in the 90s.. Everybody spends big now so everything is relevant.. You can’t tell me spurs net wages in the 60s can you? No but you know what they won. If I was to start asking all Manure fans I know what was their net spend in their recent winning era then I would be laughed at.. Chelsea and City definitely bought their way to glory but this isn’t the only way. At the end of the day clubs are judged on success, what they win. Money can buy you top players and is obviously a factor in the game now because it can buy you top players, but it can also get clubs nowhere (Chelsea right now to be Frank).. What’s important is that we buy the right players regardless of price… Dele cost 5 mil and was exactly what we needed when we bought him. Pierre was around 13 mil? In a market where players are so dear we have to be clever.. Yes I would love loads of money, give Maureen a billion to spend.. Haaland, Neymar Sergio Ramos etc would be lovely.. But this is never happening. Pointless thinking about it unless we get new rich owners willing to spend.

Nane me one club that spend less than us on wages as transfers that win the biggest League titles and the Champions League?

I think you will find that the expenditure of all those teams far outstrips what we have spent. There just isn’t anything that has happened that backs up your point.

We’d all love it to not matter, but expenditure and winning at the top level are inextricably linked. It’s just the way it is and has always been…

‘More connected with no success’ maybe a fans personal opinion, but not the case for nearly everyone else.. Whoever in their right mind wants themselves or their team to be losers?

Successful clubs get the right manager and players, have the right infrastructure of scouts and coaches and a decent acadamy helps. Money helps buy top players agreed and the business side is important. But its only one of many factors and no way is it the most important.. Leicester have already proved money isn’t everything.

‘Everything will be judged on the expenditure on the team at the end of the day’… This is where you and many other spurs fans baffle me. Banging on about net spend again. Who cares about Juve and the Arse too…… At the end of the day everything is judged on what you win.. Not money… All my manure mates couldn’t tell you their net spends under Sir Alex. They remember winning the treble for sure but the net spend at the time? What was Bill Nicholsons net spend in 60-61? Who were the owners then? Who cares about net spend? Noone.

This season’s data will be interesting – without any fans or any events. It’s going to be horrible reading for the finance guys that’s for sure. Massive losses are cast iron guaranteed.

I’m minded to think the people at the top can see that the money will come back when the fans return next season, so they will accept a blip.

Moving forward, the extra money from the stadium will end up funding wages and transfers, and we’ll be in a good spot. No one in their right minds thinks that Levy will suddenly go transfer crazy like Abramovich, but I think he’ll be in the market for very good players (in positions we need to strengthen) when they become available.

This summer, I think we’ll need a commanding centre back, a right back and another striker because Sid Vinicius isn’t up to the job and we won’t be paying £36m for him.

Also, in over 20 years under this lot, we have won one solitary League Cup.

I predict that Jose will land a pot or two though.

In that case t will have taken ENIC over 30 years to get to where you predict. THIRTY YEARS! That’s frightening…

In the next ten years I expect Tottenham to enter the top five in turn over terms and the Sky(sic) is the limit if on field success follows which it usually does when you have the financial resources.

Though strangely I heard someone say that fans are more emotionally connected to their favourite team when it has not had much sporting success. Success can bring a disconnect to the team, a certain entitlement and sense of the blasé.

Well I’m very emotionally well connected then and I’d like to see how it feels to win the Premier League and Champions League. I’d imagine the first time we win will be the biggest kick of all probably never repeated in terms of satisfaction and joy.

True, but it’s utterly meaningless unless we compete at the top level. Tanguy is the quality of player we need, we are padded out with too much mediocrity. The biggest sides have the quality of Kane, Son and Tanguy but the have it all n almost every position in the first team.

Top of the Lentil Burger league and 9th in the Bermuda Banking league. I wonder if we’d have got even higher had Levy not given himself £2m for not finishing the stadium in time? What other payments and bonuses went out to ‘partners’ on completion?

Anyway, everything will be judged on the expenditure on the team at the end of the day… I wonder what Juventus’ and Arsenal’s wage bill is? 🤔

I take it we are No 1 for debt?
Anyhoo eventually it will filter to the team and great being above Arsenal in anything is always nice.
