Tottenham Hotspur are looking to raid the Spanish club Valencia for the services of goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
The 22-year-old goalkeeper has caught the attention of the North London club with his performances this season and they are looking to sign him up as the long-term replacement for club legend, Hugo Lloris.
Lloris has shown a significant decline over the past year and he is no longer the player he used to be.
The 36-year-old Frenchman has cost his side valuable points with his error-prone performances, and Tottenham must look to replace him adequately in the starting lineup.
Mamardashvili has been a key player for Valencia and he has managed to impress despite his side’s struggles this season.
The opportunity to move to Tottenham will be an attractive option for the player. Valencia are currently 18th in the league table and they are expected to go down at the end of the season. A move to Tottenham would be a major step up in the goalkeeper’s career and it would help him develop as a footballer and fulfil his potential.
Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed to CaughtOffside that Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are keen on signing the player, but they have not had any talks regarding a potential move. Apparently, the two clubs are still waiting to appoint a permanent manager before they press ahead with their transfer plans.
On the other hand, Leicester City are keen on signing the goalkeeper as well and it will be interesting to see where the 22-year-old ends up.
“Leicester have approached Giorgi Mamardashvili by meeting his agent a few days ago, but in this case, it depends on their future in the Premier League,” the Italian wrote. “I’m told Tottenham and Chelsea are informed on the conditions of the deal but there’s no time to enter into advanced talks as both clubs don’t know who their new coach will be yet; and that’s a crucial step before making a decision on goalkeepers.”
