Romano provides the latest on the interest Tottenham has in Brentford ace

Tottenham Hotspur will be eyeing a midfielder that can help improve their attack this summer. Manager Antonio Conte likely wants someone to take the reigns from Harry Kane when it comes to being a playmaker to allow the 28-year-old to concentrate on goal scoring.

In a column for Caught Offside, transfer window specialist Fabrizio Romano provided the latest regarding Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen, whose deal with The Bees expires next month.

“Christian Eriksen is extremely respectful towards Brentford who believed in him at a difficult time in his career. That is why the first club to have a meeting with their agent Martin Schoots will be Brentford at the end of the current season, also because there is no automatic contract extension clause until 2023,” Romano wrote.

“There are three Premier League clubs that are well informed about Eriksen’s situation: Tottenham and Leicester are keeping tabs on it, but have not yet made any proposals because everything will depend on Christian’s decisions, who asked to wait for the end of the season. The third club is still secret.”

Spurs needs a creative midfielder and Eriksen has been connected over the last few weeks to a return to north London, considering he knows the club and some of the players. Furthermore, the Denmark international has played under Conte during his time at Inter Milan.

Suppose Tottenham wants to allocate money to spend on other positions and get Eriksen on a free transfer where they only have to pay wages. In that case, it becomes more evident that Eriksen could be a realistic option to fill that need on the squad for next season.
