‘Probably promised’ Ferdinand makes bold claim over transparency surrounding transfer

By Mehdi Gokal -

Manchester United legend turned pundit Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Tottenham star James Maddison would be ‘absolutely gutted’ that Kane left the club for Bayern.

James Maddison who is known to be close to Kane, would have been looking forward to forming a formidable partnership with the prolific striker at Tottenham. The assist machine and the goal scoring machine link-up would have been a treat to watch.

However, after a long-running saga, Harry Kane finally completed his move to Bayern Munich last week, and Ferdinand believes Maddison must have been hugely disappointed by it.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, he noted that Maddison might have been promised about the team’s continuity and the presence of key players like Kane and Son Heung-min before joining Tottenham.

He said (37:45 onwards):

“I would be absolutely gutted if I was him, if I was James Maddison.

“I am going to top the assist table, I am going to be playing alongside the England captain, and now Harry Kane is on a runner.

“He was probably promised on his way in, I reckon one of his questions was, ‘Are we keeping this squad together? Are we keeping Kane, Son etc?’ And they would have gone, ‘Yeah, yeah yeah’.”

Tottenham have signed a world-class player in James Maddison and that too for a bargain.

The attacking midfielder’s arrival has been seen as a significant addition to their squad, filling a void that had existed since Christian Eriksen’s departure.

And Maddison made an instant impact on his debut, assisting both of Tottenham’s goals against Brentford.

Although he would have eagerly embraced the chance to team up with Kane, he would certainly grasp the reasons behind Kane’s choice to depart from the club.
