Report: Tottenham set to land West Brom’s £7M star this summer

Tottenham Hotspur will be in the market for a backup goalkeeper this summer after extending Hugo Lloris until 2024. As a result, the north London club won’t be looking for a starter but someone that’s okay with being behind the France international.

According to the Evening Standard, Spurs are set to land West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on a free transfer in the summer. After telling them he wanted to exit when his deal expires next month, Johnstone has not played for the club for a month.

The England international wants to restart his career and play for a Premier League club next season, and Tottenham is eyeing him as a backup for their 35-year-old starter.

Johnstone has been with West Brom since 2018, appearing in 167 fixtures for the Championship club, where he’s registered 45 clean sheets during his tenure there.

It will be interesting to see how Johnstone adapts back to the Premier League and to being a backup should the deal become official.
