Report: Tottenham remain interested in signing 28-year-old set-piece specialist – player ‘expected to leave’

By Mehdi Gokal -

Despite signing James Maddison from Leicester City, Tottenham are still interested in signing Southampton star James Ward-Prowse.

That’s according to The Daily Mail, who claim that Tottenham are among the clubs who are keen on signing the midfielder. West Ham and Fulham are also mentioned as those who are interested in the player who is ‘expected to leave’ the now relegated club.

Ward-Prowse is regarded as one of the best number 8s in the league and is known for his excellent set-piece skills.

He has scored an impressive 17 direct free-kicks in his Premier League career so far, which is only one goal behind the legendary David Beckham.

Tottenham have already signed James Maddison this summer for £40m and although he has played as an attacking midfielder for The Foxes, there are suggestions that Ange Postecoglou could play him as a number 8 in an attacking role.

It would be interesting see how Tottenham plan on using both the James together if they were to make a move for Ward-Prowse. Regardless, he would still be excellent squad player for Tottenham.

However, if the player is looking for regular playing time, he could prefer to go to the likes of West Ham and Aston Villa instead.

Tottenham meanwhile continue their summer rebuild under the Australian and have already signed Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario as well as secured Kulusevski and Pedro Porro on a permanent deal.

Reports suggest Manor Solomon is scheduled to have a medical with the North London club today while Spurs are also strongly linked with the likes of Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba.
