Jose Mourinho wants Tottenham to sign Lazio midfielder, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer as he overhauls his team, according to FootMercato.
The Portuguese manager only became Spurs coach when this season had already begun and he has had to use the players signed by the club’s former managers, for the most part.
However, he is expected to make some changes to the team when the summer transfer window reopens and he has made Milinkovic-Savic a summer target claims the same report.
FootMercato also claims that a number of teams have courted the midfielder over the past few months, but Tottenham is his most serious suitor at the moment.
Milinkovic-Savic is valued at close to £60m by Transfermarkt but the chances are he would cost significantly more than that.
The Serbian won’t leave the Rome side cheaply so the report suggests that Spurs, who lack the financial muscle to pull off the transfer with straight cash, will have to sell some players this summer which would enable them to win the race for his signature.
He has been one of the shining lights of the Lazio team that has pushed Juventus all the way in the race for the Italian league title this season, making 28 league appearances, scoring 5 times and providing the same number of assists.
Tottenham has some top midfielders right now, but the likes of Tanguy Ndombele have failed to impress Mourinho and reinforcements are required.
