Tottenham Hotspur reportedly wants to add more scoring depth behind Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. They began doing so when Dejan Kulusevski arrived during the January transfer window.
There are plenty of forwards connected to the north London club to fill this need in the squad, and the latest name to surface is Newcastle United forward Allan Saint-Maximin.
However, in his column for Caught Offside, transfer window specialist Fabrizio Romano stated that the 25-year-old isn’t a priority for Tottenham to add more scoring depth behind their two star players this summer.
“Eddie Howe is a big fan of Allan Saint-Maximin and wants him to continue as a key player for next season,” Romano wrote.
“So far, Tottenham have other priorities after the Ivan Perisic deal was completed. The club has always monitored Saint-Maximin, but let’s see if they will open negotiations with Newcastle.”
Furthermore, Romano adds that Saint-Maximin must feel like a significant part of a project to get the best out of him, which wouldn’t occur with Spurs since he would be a supporting cast player. As a result, it might explain why the Premier League rivals might not have him high up their list.
“[Saint-Maximin] can absolutely be part of a club that is fighting for the top positions, but he must feel important in a project and not just an alternative. For now, it could be wise for him to stay at Newcastle, where he will be an important part of an exciting project,” Romano added.
Since arriving at Newcastle United in 2019, Saint-Maximin has made 93 appearances scoring 12 goals and recording 16 assists.
