The midfield is one of the positions that Tottenham Hotspur wants to improve with the January transfer window opening in a few days. However, Spurs might not secure a deal that will bring a player right away, considering striker is at the top of the list of needs to address.
Nonetheless, the north London club might be looking to agree to a pre-contract with a player whose deal will expire in June. According to Calciomercato, Spurs are leading the race to land AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessié.
The 25-year-old has yet to reach a contract extension with the Serie A club, and reports suggest that Kessié wants a deal that allows him to earn €9-million per year (around £150,000 per week). However, Milan is offering an annual salary of €6.5-million.
During the January transfer window, Tottenham can talk with the Ivory Coast international and his representatives and see whether they agree over a possible deal.
Kessié has made 21 appearances scoring five goals and registering one assist for AC Milan this season.
