Despite supporters returning to stadiums and life around football appearing to be normal as normal can be during these times, there’s often a reminder that the COVID-19 pandemic remains ongoing.
Football.London reports that Tottenham Hotspur is the latest club dealing with a COVID outbreak within its squad. The report details that the players who tested positive utilizing a lateral flow test will undergo an additional PCR test on Tuesday.
There’s no exact number of players and coaches who have tested positive. Still, the English media outlet states that the outbreak has put manager Antonio Conte in a state of disarray.
The outbreak couldn’t come at the wrong time as Tottenham has two matches this week with their UEFA Conference League match against Stade Rennais and their Premier League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Football.London adds that Tottenham can field a lineup for Thursday’s Conference League match. UEFA rules for the competition suggest a matchup is only at risk if “less than 13 players registered on the A list or no registered goalkeeper are available.”
However, if additional testing confirms the outbreak, it could affect the squad’s depth as they have their Premier League match two days later, and it will be interesting to see if Spurs have any fresh legs to rotate are go with the same squad.
