Report: Tottenham Hotspur eyes £13-million River Plate starlet

Tottenham Hotspur failed to land a forward to could either replace or work alongside Harry Kane, who ended up remaining with the north London-based club.

It wasn’t for the lack of trying as Tottenham saw their name in connection with forwards like Dušan Vlahović and Lautaro Martínez; however, the prices were either way too high or their clubs didn’t want to sell.

Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici will try his luck this winter transfer window, and it seems he could be heading to South America to land his coveted forward.

According to Calciomercato, the Premier League side is expressing interest in River Plate forward Julián Álvarez. The 21-year-old scored a brace against Boca Juniors, which brought even more attention to him.

The Argentine forward has made 83 appearances for River Plate while scoring 23 goals and register 21 assists. Regarding the details of a possible transfer, Álvarez has one more year left on his contract, which expires in December 2022.

Furthermore, Álvarez has a termination clause of €25-million, so with the young forward heading into the final year of his contract, it seems as though the Argentine club could cash in on the player should he decide not to extend his contract.
