Report: Tottenham have eyes on player described as ‘one of the most intriguing’ talent

By Mehdi Gokal -

According to the Turin edition of La Repubblica, as reported by Tutto Juve, Tottenham are among clubs interested in Sampdoria defender Giovanni Leoni.

The 17-year-old is considered ‘one of the most intriguing’ talents emerging in Italy.

The centre-back joined Sampdoria on loan from Padova this past season, and made 12 senior appearances in the Serie B, scoring one goal. The loan deal turns into a permanent one on 1st July with a transfer fee of €1.5m.

However, his stay at Sampdoria could be extremely short. The report states that Torino are leading the race to sign him ahead of Tottenham, Napoli and Juventus. He will only cost €5m, but the report does not mention whether any of the clubs have made an official bid for him.

Tottenham are looking at bolstering their defence by signing another centre-back in their roster. However, interest in him would be part of their recent strategy that has seen them sign a number of young promising stars for the future.

They have recently signed the likes of Lucas Bergvall, Ashley Phillips, Alejo Veliz, and Luka Vuskovic. And Giovanni Leoni would be another youngster that Spurs seem to be interested in investing in.
