Report: Tottenham eyes Atheltic Club goalkeeper as the long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris extended his contract last month, keeping the 35-year-old in north London until 2024. Despite the France international staying for another two seasons, Spurs still have their eyes on a long-term replacement.

Marca reports Tottenham has been keeping tabs on Athletic Club and Spain international Unai Simon. The north London club considers him as a possible long-term replacement for Lloris between the goal post.

At only 24-years-old, Simon has almost 100 LaLiga appearances and 20 caps for the Spain national team. If Spurs do indeed decide to pursue for the Spanish goalkeeper, he won’t come cheap as Simon is under contract with Athletic Club until 2025.

The Premier League side is thinking about Lloris’ long-term replacement as this summer they did bring in Pierluigi Gollini on a loan deal from Atalanta. Still, the 27-year-old has only made ten appearances this season, none in league competition.

As a result, it seems as though Gollini might not be the answer for a post-Lloris Spurs, and Tottenham could have their eyes on Simon.
