Report: Tottenham could use loanee to land Villarreal star defender this summer

Tottenham Hotspur has been linked to Villarreal defender Pau Torres for nearly a year. Last summer, the north London club reportedly pushed for the Spanish defender but failed as Torres remained with The Yellow Submarine to play UEFA Champions League football.

However, this time around, it seems Spurs are making another push for the 25-year-old, but they could be using a trade chip this time around. According to Sky Italy (via Spurs Web), Tottenham is working to sign Torres, with midfielder Giovani Lo Celso being part of a deal.

Lo Celso spent these last few months on loan with the Spanish club and impressed them during their Champions League knockout stages run, where they reached the competition’s semifinals.

As a result, Villarreal would like to keep the Argentine permanently so that’s a deal for Torres could involve Lo Celso in some matter to lower that transfer fee that the north London club might have to pay for Torres.
