Report: Tottenham, Aston Villa battling over Juventus midfielder

There are only hours left until the January transfer window, and Tottenham Hotspur wants to secure a deal or two that can help them in their fight for a top-four spot.

According to Sky Sports, Tottenham eyes Juventus defensive midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur could depart if a club meets the Italian club’s £21-million up front asking price.

However, that could be a problem for Spurs, who prefer a loan deal until the end of the season.

Nonetheless, it doesn’t seem that they will sway Juve’s mind as they hold out for their preferred figure because any move for Bentancur would see 30-percent of the fee go to former club Boca Juniors.

Tottenham faces competition for the Uruguayan international as Aston Villa is keen to add Bentancur to his squad to offer competition for Douglas Luiz.

Villa has reportedly offered £16.5-million plus £4m in bonuses for the Uruguayan. Juve rejected the Villans’ bid as it fell short of the Serie A side’s asking sum.
