Report: Tottenham among the Premier League clubs eyeing Chelsea defender

LONDON, ENGLAND - SEPTEMBER 25: Andreas Christensen of Chelsea claps the fans following the Premier League match between Chelsea and Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on September 25, 2021 in London, England. (Photo by Catherine Ivill/Getty Images)

Tottenham Hotspur is ready to use the free transfer market to help improve its central defense position. A couple of days ago, a report stated that Spurs are prepared to make an offer for Antonio Rüdiger.

Now it seems the north London-based club is ready to pursue another Chelsea defender whose contract expires in June. According to the Daily Star, Tottenham is among the clubs eyeing center-back Andreas Christensen.

Christensen has yet to extend with Chelsea. Also, with the January window opening soon, the 25-year-old can begin talks with any club and agree to a pre-contract that kicks in next season.

Manager Antonio Conte has pinpointed reinforcing Spurs’ spine as absolute importance. Although the Italian tactician having coach Christensen the defender during his time with The Blues, leaving for another London-based club doesn’t seem like the smartest of moves.

Nonetheless, a quality deal and a project that intrigues him might be enough to forgo any allegiance he has to Chelsea. Spurs aren’t the only Premier League club eyeing the Denmark international as Manchester City and Manchester United also have an interest.

The Simpsons nailed this one….

Homer: Not a bear in sight. The Bear Patrol must be working like a charm.
Lisa: That’s specious reasoning, Dad.
Homer: Thank you, dear.
Lisa: By your logic I could claim that this rock keeps tigers away.
Homer: Oh, how does it work?
Lisa: It doesn’t work.
Homer: Uh-huh.
Lisa: It’s just a stupid rock.
Homer: Uh-huh.
Lisa: But I don’t see any tigers around, do you?
[Homer thinks of this, then pulls out some money]
Homer: Lisa, I want to buy your rock.
[Lisa refuses at first, then takes the exchange]

I certainly think so.

Also, where the f*ck has all the hand washing gone, which was the existing medical guidance? Are they making this up as they go along?

Oh, and when it inevitably doesn’t turn out to be a “tidal wave” the government and NHS will be congratulating themselves and everyone for a ‘Herculean’ effort with the booster program. They’ll call it evidence that the booster program worked, when it was only ever a worst case scenario anyway… Outrageous really.

So ‘shortsighted’ that they would rather not have a player who disrespected our club in a Chelsea shirt?

As an aside, I find it strange how ‘scientists’ can suddenly say that the booster offers 75% greater effectiveness against the Omni-con variant with zero research. Also this “tidal wave” is a worse case scenario projection and not a prediction.

We have been guided by worse case scenarios by ‘experts’ from the very beginning. As a result thousands have died as a result of a lack of treatment for other serious illnesses, not to mention all the other impacts. The NHS has not once been ‘overwhelmed’, even before the vaccine.

I’m not ‘anti vax’ but this constant insistence in trying to convince teenagers and younger age groups to get jabbed can only be described as suspicious. The booster take up has been slow outside the vulnerable groups. So they use a variant that has even less severe symptoms to push the booster to the wider population.

This is a couple of weeks after Javid announced a massive deal with big pharma to supply the UK with vax for the next three years. Gotta use it up, even if it makes negligible difference.

The new variants will spread, unless you lock down tight again and all that does is hold it back and stops nature taking its course. They must be allowed to spread and there is very little evidence that vaccines stop spread to any significant degree.

So we have a rapid spread of a less virulent and sever variant, yet this calls for a mass booster program that has yet to be proved to offer any more protection than the existing antibodies from the first two jabs. So you get less ill from Omnicron yet we must get boosted?!

OMNI-CON…

I was reading yet another pundit saying how Spurs and a team of no marks from N London had missed out on signing Zouma from the racists.
A little bit of research would have told this idiot that Chelsea do not do any business with Spurs and the bloke who runs the racists is powerful and rich compared to which our little feller is a small player.
£30m for a player who has been out on loan more times than CCV it would have been a risk anyway so eel munching territory was the right move.
Anyway I see this move would be different so if Tony has coached him before its up to him if he rates him

He’s not considered to be a chairman who’s word can be trusted. If you want to go to Spurs, try and get in the top 4 and earn some nice money then fine. If you really want trophies and other clubs were in for you with a recent trophy record, why would you come to us? Our owners have overseen only one minor trophy in 23 years ffs…

We weren’t fully aware of his contract situation, so not impossible if he’s a free agent but free agents that are actually decent demand massive deals.

I’m not saying there isn’t, especially with Romero out, Rodon not ready and in midfield we could do with a creative option, seeing as Tangy is not fit for purpose and Dele needs to go back to playing in disused tennis courts in Milton Keynes…

I think Levy needs to stump up for a few Decent players, enough of whom don’t have the whiff of the chavs about them. However, it’s going to be the usual story of to dare is too dear.

And as the Harry saga plays out, what top player wouldn’t want to join us having been told by Levy that he’s going to bring trophies and invest on the playing side?! The bald midgets chickens may be coming home to roost

There are times when a bit of self respect has to come into it, he’s not the only decent defender around. Yeah he’s on a free in the summer, but so what? I see no reason why we should be expecting to snap up players out of contract just because the bald pillock won’t cough up a fee for someone else, who didn’t say that about our fans…

He would be a big upgrade but can’t see us competing for him, unfortunately. Maybe he might write us a letter when he sings for another club though.

East Stand

It’s not impossible, but what’s to say they might not sign new deals at Chavs? Talk of Rudiger possibly getting a new deal at 380k a week there, and there’s also other clubs that could take them on frees other than us, who pay more than we do.

If I was an agent for a player available on a free in the summer, I would be expecting a massive salary and signing on fee for my client, along with a huge wedge in my skyrocket to get it over the line. Levy is the last place I’d go looking for that outcome…

Yes, which is why don’t need more average dross clogging up the squad, like Stevie B, Doherty etc. I’d even also say Rodon, Gil and Sessingnon, not because they might not be good one day, but they improve us not one iota in the present, or assist with the job in hand.

I also think many of us still hark back to the days where footballers wanted to play for the club they signed for. Sadly, IMO, they are now ‘professionals’ which seems to equate to playing for the highest bidder. Agree with SKCW on that front whereby Rudiger would be a genuinely quality signing. Just can’t stand the khant after the racism episode.

No, and I agree that it would be a classic excuse IF there was a suitable target that we could get if Levy coughed up.

I’m also being realistic about the transfer market and why January is not generally the time when the quality moves around particularly freely. Then again for me if Paratici is actually some kind of guru in this area, that he might at least be able to do something that might help in January, even a quality loan or two, especially with Romero out…

I don’t want to say what I think is the answer. I just hope the last 20odd years make Levy do something different. Wouldn’t bet a penny on it though.

Easty- IMO we have a very low bar regarding ING anyone improving the squad in Jan. We have maybe 13 half decent players.

Rudiger and Chrissy both contracts run out in the summer… This means they will be free agents. So there is no direct transfer business with Chelsea here.. They could sign new contracts with Chelsea.. I think the rules say they can speak to other clubs in January because they will be in the last 6 months… As Conte has signed Rudiger before, we are bound to approach him.. Connect the dots..

Aye, Madrid are favourites I think.. There is a slim chance we could get him if he loves Conte..

Down voted by a few shortsighted I see, but agree, Rudiger is strong, quick and big a step up in quality. However, there will be a long list of clubs who actually win things in the line for his signature before he has to worry about signing for the likes of us.

I still think bringing in players that can improve the team in January, for any club in the top four or around that position, is very difficult. Because you need real quality to improve the team and how many real quality players move in January? Not many.

With 4th place up for grabs, one would hope Conte can bring in players now rather than wait for the summer.

When was the last time Spurs and Chelsea did any direct transfer business? Which is why these stories are so poorly thought out. Rudiger is out of contract in the summer and recently it looks like he’s been playing for one. The same guy who accused the Spurs supporters of singing racist chants towards him, which turned out to be pure fabrication. No thanks to either Chavsters…

Been watching Rudiger closely for weeks now.. The man is a monster. Would love to sign him.. Odds are unlikely though.
