Report: Rodrigo Bentancur having medical in Uruguay, Dejan Kulusevski in London

TURIN, ITALY - JANUARY 13: Dejan Kulusevski of Juventus F.C. celebrates with teammate Rodrigo Bentancur after scoring their team's first goal during the Coppa Italia match between Juventus and Genoa CFC at Allianz Stadium on January 13, 2021 in Turin, Italy. Tottenham Hotspur is close to completing a double swoop of Juvetus’ Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur.

However, after failing to secure some transfers, the north London club won’t be striking out with only hours left until the January window closes.

Sky Sports reports that Bentancur did his Tottenham medical remotely from Uruguay. The player is currently preparing to face Venezuela with his national team on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Kulusevski is flying into the UK to do a medical at Hotspur Way.

The north London club reached an agreement for Bentancur for €19-million plus another €6-million in add-ons and bonuses. As for Kulusevski, Tottenham paid a loan fee of €5-million with an obligation to buy for a further €35-million.

Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici brings in two players that he’s familiar with during his time with Juventus. After that, it will be up to manager Antonio Conte to integrate the two into his squad and get them up to date on what he’s trying to accomplish this season.

Don’t think he would enjoy Conti’s constant pressing game especially after his illness and too close for comfort at the Euros. Unfortunately he Needs to take it easy.

I’m not an expert on Bentancur but I don’t get the Winks comparisons…. Bentancur is an aggressive far better defensive mid than winks more of a PEH Skipp hybrid if anything but with a better sense of danger. Also Winks( I can’t believe I’m going to say this) is a more progressive player than Bentancur 😬 so other than they have both sat deep sometimes…..

Levy’s a penny pinching cheapskate, these are above market value spread over loans with obligations to buy and mostly from Italy….Paratici written all over it.

Paratici signings so far…. Hardly setting the world on fire is he. These signings have Levy written all over them. Hopeful punts to make more money in 5 years time. But as we know… all will be sold at a loss or just let go.

#THFC’s signings under Paratici:

– Bryan Gil (20)
– Emerson Royal (22)
– Pape Sarr (18)
– Cristian Romero (23)
– Pierluigi Gollini (26)
– Rodrigo Bentancur (24) 🔜
– Dejan Kulusevski (21) 🔜

Bentancur is better than what we have in terms of aggression and sensing danger but he defo wouldn’t have been what we were looking for when you look at our other targets and players that Conte has favoured in the past.

Thanks. Hmmm guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Watched a couple of videos on youtube comparing the stats and Ben seems to have the edge. Another thing he’s 6’2″ so will be good in the air. Currently we have midgets in midfield so a bit of height will come in handy.

Kulu can play right sided forward or AM. The other guy is more DM and a slight upgrade for rotation perhaps. Has better figures than Skipp generally, better than Winks imo. I wonder if Kulu plays right whether Lucas can play AM or no.10? Could Lucas even be tried as RWB?
But like to say we need other positions filling, so no solution really. Levy peeing in the wind and seeing where it lands.

Seem to have a huge number of midfielders poor right back and poor back line.

2 players that will improve our squad. Both had very good seasons the year before last, but lost their way a bit and with new signings fell down the pecking order at Juve a bit. Both would move straight into our dysfunctional midfield without any problem.

Who is Tim Vickery?

Hearing Tim Vickery’s assessment of Betancur last night wasn’t overly promising “I don’t see what he’ll provide that Harry Winks isn’t capable of, aside from being slightly more physical. The only other difference between them is Winks has a better understanding of the Hemel Hempstead magic roundabout.”

Had hoped we’d go for Dejan after the Euros where he looked impressive. Rodrigo has always looked stolid for Juve. So happy with those.
Never fancied Adama hope he is glad to go home. As for Luis didn’t really see him in a Conte team.
Morata would have been a good fit, but Arsenal need 11players so they can lose to us.
Had hoped Christian would be taken up, but he should do well at Brentford.
Ollie Tanner needs to stew his head.

Let’s hope they have a good attitude and a willingness to help the team.
From what i’ve heard Bentacur is just a taller version of Winks. Let’s see…

If this is an exercise to remove the bad apples and replace them with players looking to play football, then i’m all for it. However, we are not improving the squad in my opinion. These are just able bodies to get us through until the summer window.

Surprised we didn’t go for eriksen, had nothing to lose..we still haven’t bought a creative attacking midfielder and a defender which we needed desperately.
