Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with a move for the Sporting Lisbon defender Pedro Porro and the London club were expected to sign him this month.
However, a report from Daily Mail claims that the 23-year-old defender is valued at £40 million and Tottenham are unwilling to pay the asking price for him.
It is no surprise that Tottenham are looking to sign a quality wing back given the performances of Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty this season. Both players have been underwhelming and summer signing Djed Spence is yet to win over the trust of manager Antonio Conte.
Bringing in a quality wingback could transform Spurs at both ends of the pitch and it remains to be seen whether the Londoners can sign somebody before the January window closes.
Porro has been excellent for the Portuguese club this season and he has 10 assists across all competitions.
There is no doubt that the 23-year-old would have been an exceptional long-term signing for Tottenham but his release clause is proving prohibitive to any potential move.
The former Manchester City defender failed to make his mark in England with the Cityzens and he will be determined to prove his quality in the Premier League if a move to Tottenham goes through.
The young defender played against Tottenham in the Champions League group stages earlier this season and his impressive performances seem to have caught the attention of Conte.
It remains to be seen whether Sporting Lisbon are willing to lower the asking price in the coming weeks.
