Report reveals how Liverpool clause has complicated Tottenham move for 21-goal star

Liverpool sell-on clause could hinder Tottenham’s pursuit of Bournemouth ace Dominic Solanke.

The North London did a great job without signing a Harry Kane replacement last summer. Despite losing their record goal scorer, Ange Postecoglou ensured they finished fifth in the Premier League. However, the Australian manager has made it his top priority to sign a world-class striker before the start of next season.

He wants a central figure who can lead the line and allow Son Heung-min to feature on his preferred left flank. Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke had an impressive campaign last time out and he is on the wishlist of Tottenham. According to a report from the Mirror, Spurs will face difficulties in signing Solanke, with the situation further complicated by Liverpool’s sell-on clause.

The English international joined the Cherries in the winter of 2019 and he has only gone from strength to strength since. Last season, the 26-year-old scored 21 goals, 19 of which came in the Premier League. His heroics in front of the goal are one of the major reasons why Spurs want to sign him but they are not going to find it easy,

Bournemouth have no intentions of negotiating his departure and they will only let him leave in a situation where his £65million release clause is triggered. With Liverpool owning 20% of his future sale, the Cherries can’t really afford to lower their demands. They need to make a significant profit and holding out on the release clause seems to be their best bet.

Tottenham are unlikely to table a club-record bid to sign the former Liverpool striker. But, they could seek to test Bournemouth’s resolve by including players in a potential part-exchange deal.
