Report: Man City, Man United creating a tug of war battle for Tottenham transfer target

Tottenham Hotspur is going to be in the market for a midfielder this summer, and one of the more recent names connected to the north London is Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse.

A recent report suggested that Spurs and Newcastle United were eyeing the 27-year-old, but The Saints have no interest in selling their captain. However, The Sun reports that these two clubs now have to fight off Manchester United and Manchester City.

With West Ham United keen on keeping Declan Rice or at least wanting £150-million for the midfielder, Manchester United is switching targets and eye Ward-Prowse; meanwhile, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola wants the England international to replace Fernandinho.

The midfielder is under contract until 2026, so Southampton has all the leverage if their Premier League rivals want to pry away Ward-Prowse this summer. The Sun adds that having this interest from several clubs could cause a £75-million tug of war for their captain.

In 39 fixtures this season, the Southampton midfielder has scored ten goals while registering eight assists.
