Report explains why Tottenham move for 19-year-old wide player failed to materialise

Tottenham’s move for Danish sensation Patrick Dorgu didn’t go through because of Lecce’s high asking price.

The North London club have undergone quite a few changes on and off the field since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou and Johan Lange. Apart from the ultra-attacking approach on the pitch, Spurs have made significant changes to their transfer policy. The Premier League outfit now focuses on signing young players who can help them in the long run.

It was quite evident from the business they did during the last summer window. Tottenham added three teenagers to their first team and were also looking to sign Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu. But, the move didn’t materialise. The North London club were quite keen on signing the Danish sensation who can feature anywhere on either flank but according to Tuttomercatoweb via Pianetalecce, Spurs didn’t go ahead with the move because of the Italian outfit’s high asking price of over €30 million.

Dorgu was promoted to Lecce’s first team in the summer of 2023 and he made quite a name for himself with his impressive performances in his debut season. The 19-year-old’s versatility caught everyone’s attention and his performances even helped him get his first cap for the Danish national team.

Tottenham had included him in their transfer shortlist and they were interested in signing him. But negotiations didn’t go as planned because Lecce were not ready to sell unless a team were ready to fork out between €30 to €35 million. Given the kind of talent Dorgu has, it won’t be a surprise if Spurs return for his signature as the next possible opportunity.
