Tottenham Hotspur signed Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona at the start of the season.
The 27-year-old has not been a regular starter for the Londoners but he has been a useful squad option for Antonio Conte.
Now a report from Football Insider claims that the French defender’s future at Spurs depends on Antonio Conte and he won’t be at the London club next season if the Italian manager leaves in the summer.
The Italian manager’s contract will expire at the end of the season and Tottenham have not reached an agreement with him regarding an extension.
The 27-year-old defender wanted to play under Conte and that is one of the main reasons why he moved to the Premier League club on loan.
Tottenham are in need of defensive reinforcements at the end of the season and it wouldn’t be surprising if they decided to try and make his move permanent. The likes of Davinson Sanchez could move on in search of regular game time and Lenglet would be a squad player for Spurs.
The Frenchman has three years left on his contract at Barcelona but he is unlikely to get regular game time at the Spanish club.
A permanent exit from Cam Nou would be ideal for him and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.
Ideally, Spurs will want to hold on to Conte for as long as possible. The Italian is a world-class manager and his departure will come as a major blow to them.
