Tottenham Hotspur are likely to move on from midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, who spent the last six months of the 2021-22 season on loan to Villarreal. The Argentine boosted his stock during The Yellow Submarine’s run to the UEFA Champions League semifinals.
Villarreal wants to hold onto the 25-year-old permanently, but they face competition for Lo Celso. AS (via Foot Mercato) reports that Atletico Madrid would also like to secure the Tottenham midfielder.
Atletico Madrid has long had an interest in Lo Celso as they tried to sign him three years ago, but they could not meet the demands of Real Betis, and the midfielder, therefore, joined Spurs.
Manager Diego Simeone remains a big fan of the Tottenham man, so it is no surprise that they’re revisiting their interest in him. Lo Celso has seen his best football come while in La Liga, so it’s like he will want to remain, and perhaps joining the Colchoneros is an option.
