Report: Antonio Conte believes AC Milan target can be the backbone for Tottenham midfield

Many wonder how manager Antonio Conte can fix the Tottenham Hotspur striker group. Harry Kane has one goal in Premier League competition this season, and there’s also the possibility that the 28-year-old continues with his request to depart the north London-based club.

However, the midfield is another position that needs to be reshaped over the next couple of transfer windows.

The Daily Star reports that AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessié, whose deal runs out in June, is Conte’s favorite to be the backbone of the midfielder and add some toughness to the squad.

Spurs did begin addressing their issues at midfield when they brought in Pape Matar Sarr from FC Metz. Nonetheless, Conte wants to find the spine to his midfield, and he could be heading to Italy to find it.

Kessié is a versatile midfielder who can play either the central or defensive position.

This season, 12 of his 17 appearances have come as a defensive midfielder, which gives the 24-year-old the qualities to be the backbone of a midfield that Conte desires at Tottenham.
