Report: £18M Price Tag Slapped On Bland Midfielder Linked To Tottenham

Tottenham could sign Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino for £18m when the transfer window reopens, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The report from Italy understands that Inter are ready to sell the 28-year-old and have placed the aforementioned modest valuation on him.

Spurs and Everton are said to be leading the Premier League interest.

Anybody paying £18m for Vecino would be getting value for money in the modern market but the Uruguayan wouldn’t be an exciting addition.

He is neither the bona fide holding player who could bring balance to a midfield containing one or both of Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele, or an alternative creative option to last summer’s major signings, averaging a goal (22) or assist (19) every 5.4 matches across his club career.

And yes, one of those goals did come against us in the Champions League, but I cannot say he has stood out on the few occasions I’ve seen him play.

Vecino is just a bit bland, really. It could be argued that is what Jose Mourinho is looking for. I’d say he’s already got Harry Winks for that.
