Redknapp says Kane’s decision means Tottenham can finish in the top four this season

Harry Kane has decided to remain at Tottenham for this campaign, dashing Manchester City’s hopes of landing him and boosting Tottenham’s chances of silverware.

Harry Redknapp believes that decision means Spurs can now finish this campaign inside the top four.

They finished the last season in the Europa Conference League places and have qualified for the group stage of the competition.

They had started the 2020/2021 campaign in fine form and where contenders at one point to win the Premier League.

Things quickly unravelled for them and Spurs sacked Jose Mourinho as their manager.

Following another trophyless season, Kane asked the club to sell him in this transfer window.

City was prepared to sign him, but Spurs refused and they have now forced the striker to perform a U-turn and stay at the club.

Former Tottenham boss, Redknapp believes his decision to stay makes them one of the favourites for finishing inside the top four.

When asked whether his former side Spurs could finish in the top four, Redknapp said to TalkSport:  “Absolutely. At the start of last season, I looked at their squad and thought, ‘This team’s got a chance of winning it!’

“They were that strong, but they really underachieved badly last year. They’ve started well this year.

“With Dele Alli coming back, you get him on-side, you get him fit – I think the kid is a fantastic talent.

“It’s like having another new player, with Harry staying as well. They’ve made one or two signings as well, so things are looking good for Tottenham.

“Kane staying gives them a real chance again this year.”
