Qatari investors ready to revisit Tottenham takeover on one condition

By Saikat -

Qatari investors are keen on acquiring a majority stake in Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham’s chairman Daniel Levy recently confirmed that the club are in talks with potential investors as they look to establish themselves as one of the powerhouses in the Premier League.

The North London club are looking for a minority investment. While investors from Qatar are interested, they will only revisit the Tottenham takeover on their terms as per a report by Football Insider.

Levy confirmed the fact that Spurs were in talks with investors via a statement in the club’s 2022-23 accounts. It stated that the board and its advisors, Rothschild & Co are in talks with potential investors as they look to bring in a significant investment to transform the club further.

The North London club prefer selling a minority stake in the club as their current board members are an important part of their long-term project. 87 per cent of the club is owned by ENIC who are headed by Joe Lewis while their chairman Levy also owns a minority share in the company.

Qatari investors want majority stake

Investors from Qatar are keen on purchasing a stake in the club and they had previously held talks with them back in 2022. While it might not have worked out back then, they are ready to revisit the prospect of a takeover but are only looking to purchase a majority stake. They have no intentions of making a minority investment. The idea is to have full control of the Premier League club.

With Qatari investors only willing to make a move on their terms, a deal for a minority stake with US groups remains an unlikely outcome at this stage.

Meanwhile, Tottenham published a club-record revenue of £550 million and a record-breaking income of £117 million from matchdays, making them a very attractive option for potential investors.
