Pundit warns Tottenham, starting Conte signing would be a “huge gamble”

Tottenham Hotspur did well to grind out a draw against Brentford after going 2-0 down in the game earlier today.

Reacting to Tottenham’s performance, BBC pundit Glenn Murray opened up on the importance of Harry Kane. The 29-year-old scored an important goal for his side and put on a splendid display for the Londoners.

Murray has revealed that Antonio Conte will have to continue starting the 29-year-old striker week in and week out.

Spurs signed Richarlison from Everton at the start of the season, and the Brazilian was expected to be a backup option for Kane so that Conte can rotate the England international and keep him fresh for the big games.

However, Murray has now revealed that starting Richarlison instead of Kane would be a big gamble for Tottenham, and they cannot afford to take that risk.

Speaking on BBC 5 Live, Murray said: “Harry Kane is ageing with grace. He is going to get you 20 goals a season and he can also drop deep and create chances for others.

“It’s not like when he stops scoring he’s not going to be of any use to the team.

“I still feel he is an asset for Spurs and if you drop him you are taking a huge gamble on Richarlison, when fit, producing.”

Tottenham will be hoping to secure Champions League qualification this season, and they will need to perform at a high level in the second half of the campaign in order to finish in the top four.

The likes of Manchester United and Liverpool are breathing down their necks currently and any slip-up could prove to be very costly.

The long-term futures of Harry Kane and Antonio Conte is still uncertain and losing out on Champions League football could result in both of them leaving the club in the near future. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can bring in a couple of quality additions in January and finish the season strongly.
