Tottenham Hotspur is dealing with the injury to Cristian Romero, considering not many are convinced about the options behind the Argentine defender. Nonetheless, Spurs had opportunities to further improve their central defense group but didn’t.

Charlie Austin, a pundit on talkSPORT, stated that both Tottenham and Arsenal would regret their decision to bypass West Ham United’s Kurt Zouma. The Hammers acquired the France international in a deal worth around £30 million

“Zouma is definitely up there [with the Premier League signings of the season so far],” Austin said. “Other clubs are looking at it and thinking: ‘We should have went for him’. Spurs, Arsenal – they are. [Chelsea only let him go] because they have better players.”

Tottenham went with Romero spending £42-million to land the 22-year-old and didn’t address the position any further; meanwhile, Arsenal decided to spend £50-milllion for Ben White to address their need at central defense.

Time will tell which club made the right decision long-term with their need to find a defender to help anchor their backline.

Right now, West Ham might seem like they got a steal in Zouma, but it’s still a small sample size, and perhaps in the second half of the season, Romero might look like the defender worth the transfer price.
