Pundit says this is a big month for “frustrated” Mourinho

By Bruce Grove -

It has been a tough few weeks for Jose Mourinho with the Special One repeatedly being let down by his players.

The former Chelsea boss remains one of the most decorated managers in the game and joined Tottenham to enhance his reputation for winning things.

The club also backed him with some outstanding players at the start of the season, despite the financial uncertainty around the coronavirus pandemic.

He looked to be working his magic when his team topped the Premier League table last year. However, things have not gone to plan so far.

They have been eliminated from the Europa League and they recently dropped points against Newcastle United.

The 2-2 draw against the Magpies was a setback in their bid to make the top four and he said after the game: “Same coach, different players.” (BBC)

Those comments shifted the blame to his players and Sky Sports man Paul Gilmour says he appears frustrated and faces some key games before the season ends.

He said on the Pitch to Post podcast: “I think that was clearly a frustrated response. And yeah, he probably let his frustration get the better of them.

“He is a guy who’s won the Champions League, Premier League, La Liga, all these top titles. But with that past in mind, he probably feels extra frustrated when he perceives standards not to be as high. So I think it comes out in interviews sometimes, from what we’re told, I think he still feels the support of Daniel Levy. But, you know, as we’re going to talk about later, it could be a big month ahead.”

We should get Gordon Ramsey in. Reckon he’d liven things up a bit and he wouldn’t take any lies or nonsense from little baldy either. Could be the first manager in history to run the team and the kitchen. Even our foreign players would understand “you f-ing useless lot”.

It looks increasingly likely that our club will earn the dubious accolade of being the only club José Mourinho has been able to do nothing for.
Interestingly, on Friday night I watched an episode of Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, where he was tasked with turning around a floundering restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona. For the first time in the show’s history, having helped dozens of businesses turn from the brink and become successful, he was forced to admit defeat and walk away, having failed to get the owners to listen and do what was right for the restaurant.

Sound familiar?

Lets hope our players don’t have this mentality…

We can do both as long as no injuries to key players.

Well said. We are in full transition really. Pierre isn’t the best footballer but his tackling and break up of play and recovery is the best. He tops stats… If it wasn’t for Kantes drop in form then he would easily be the best still.

Add into that mix you need Champions League football to attract the best talent, we screwed that one as well then because we weren’t shopping for those players

Who are these outstanding players Jose was backed with? ‘Past your sell by date’ Bale, Doherty, Vinicius and Rodon? Do me a favour.

Hojbjerg and Reggie have turned out ok, but I wouldn’t have had them as ‘outstanding’ before they signed, still wouldn’t. Before people start frothing at the mouth, Hojbjerg has an amazing attitude and is a bright spark in a dank, depressing season, but there are quite a few DM who are better than him in the EPL. I think he is good, but not unique? He will run through a field of rabid rottweilers but so will Fernandhino, Rodrigo, Fabinho, Henderson, Ndidi, Tielmans, Rice, Doucoure, Allan, Moutinho, Romeu, Phillips, Kante, Kovacic, Brownhill, Bissouma. How many of those are better footballers than PEH?

Jose was given a bad hand. It was all smoke and mirrors. We lost an absolute legend in Super Jan, but just like all our recent superstars he wasn’t replaced. We’ll get Damarai Gray to replace Son and Pukki to replace Kane! I would feel sorry for Jose, but I think his £15m is a good softener for the fella.

He said it himself. Players make managers. Redknapp always said it was easy managing great players like Luka, Rafa, Ledley, Bale etc….it’s when players aren’t fantastic that management and coaching is really brought into play. Chris Wilder getting unbelievable results out of that Sheff Utd squad, Ian Holloway at Blackpool when he got them to the Prem. Warnock’s overachieved with sides that had no business being where they were. Managerial success ain’t all about Champions league music and world class players. At that top top level you need what’s tantamount to a movie star. Seems those “psychological and motivational techniques” Jose worked on at ISEF only work largely on the likes of Essien, Drogba etc when they are playing out of their skin…..

Dier, Winks and Sissoko….well, that’s an entirely different coursework.

I think we’ll be well out of the running for top 4 by then….I would expect the hammers, scousers & chavs to all drop points.. but I cant see them dropping more than us..

I think the big month ahead is the cup final, somehow I believe Jose has a chance till the last game vs Leicester to make to the top4 since the difference is only 3 point from the 4th place it may go to the wire.
